2023 Turkey Trot Training Group
This year’s Turkey Trot Training Group is led by Gulf Winds Track Club and Ashlee Blake and meets on Monday evenings starting at 6:00 p.m. The class started September 25, 2023, and runs until November 20, 2023. The group meets at Four Oaks Park near SouthWood. The park is located on Four Oaks Boulevard between School House Road and Tram Road. Park near the volleyball courts and look for your fellow runners. Feel free to join in when you can and don’t worry if you missed the first few classes. The class is a great way to get familiar with the Turkey Trot race courses.
Cadence Running, powered by Trail & Ski, and the Winthrop Park Express Running Group provide pacers. There is a lead pace group that averages 9-10 minutes/mile, a second group that runs around 11-12 minutes/mile, a run/walk group, and a walk group. The groups explore the Turkey Trot racecourses and use the RunGo app for those that desire having turn-by-turn directions for the run each week.
All paces and abilities are welcome, and the distance is adjusted each week depending upon what the participants are looking for. Choose the group that you think is best for you. You do not have to stay with the same group each week. If you think you are ready to go a little faster, you can move to a different group. If you need to go a little easier, that is also an option. If the group you chose for the night is going too fast, it is okay to drop back to the next group behind you. Just let your volunteer leader know!
